  • Student Learning Outcomes
    • Analyze and describe characteristics (real/virtual, upright/inverted, magnified/diminished) of images produced by mirrors using the mirror equation, magnification equation, and ray tracings.
    • Analyze and describe characteristics (real/virtual, upright/inverted, magnified/diminished) of images produced by lenses using the thin-lens equation, magnification equation, and ray tracings.
    • Understand how the image produced by a first lens becomes the object for a second lens, in order to analyze and describe:
      • cameras,
      • eyes,
      • simple magnifiers,
      • compound microscopes,
      • and telescopes.
    • Understand how angular magnification is defined for a virtual image formed by a lens, that subsequently becomes an object for an eye.
